About the Community of Stillwater

Stillwater, the birth place of Minnesota, is located just 20 miles east of downtown St. Paul. A dynamic, growing community of over 16,000 residents, it’s nestled into the bluffs of the St. Croix River, one of America's protected Wild and Scenic Waterways. The family-oriented community offers the advantages and conveniences of living near the Twin Cities metropolitan area plus the peacefulness and safety of small town Minnesota. Excellent schools and a wide variety of recreational opportunities add to the high quality of life in the St. Croix Valley.
Stillwater offers a well-balanced atmosphere of planned development and managed growth, together with more than one hundred years of rich history that has placed the City of Stillwater itself on the National Registry of Historic Places. Stillwater takes pride in preserving the past. A trolley tour through Stillwater provides a look at the churches and many homes built in the 1800s, the first Court House in Minnesota, and a stop at Pioneer Park, once the estate of Isaac Staples a lumber baron in the 1800s, for a panoramic view of the City that is now used for family reunions, weddings and receptions. You will notice the paddle wheel boats going up and down the St. Croix preserving the days of paddle wheel boats. Take a ride on the train with its nostalgic interior design along the St. Croix shoreline, tour the City from an air balloon or spend the weekend in one of the beautifully decorated bed & breakfasts.

You can explore the beautiful St. Croix Valley from charming Stillwater. Unique shops, galleries and fine restaurants dot the historic downtown area. Throughout Stillwater you can find the right kind of place to play, have a family reunion, a quiet picnic, relax by a lake, swim, hike trails, bicycle, cross country ski, ice skate, play soccer or baseball or even have a wedding. Stillwater has many wonderful trails and over 30 parks throughout the City. Many are neighborhood parks that provide a variety of amenities that can be reserved.
